Colla
Ciotach MacDonald was a mighty hero in the XVII century Gaelic
world, but his stature has been eroded by the passage of time.
This work makes use of both contemporary and traditional sources
to put his life in context; it also seeks to vindicate the reputation
of his son, Alasdair MacCholla, whose military genius in the evacuation
of Kintyre has been deliberately denied. The book has useful maps
and appendices, including the diary of Rev. Weir, a Covenanter
held hostage in Mingary Castle.

the controversial and complicated nature of these wars Kevin Byrne
has done a meticulous job in presenting the facts calmly and in
a scholarly fashion." - West Highland Free Press.
