This work has been published in a limited edition of 200 copies, to mark the bi-centenary of the church. Colonsay Baptist church was established by Rev. Dugald Sinclair during an evangelistic intineration of 1812 and the centenary was marked by the publication of The Baptist Church in Colonsay written by John McNeill. To mark the bi-centenary, Eleanor McNeill has written Colonsay Baptist Church Update: The Open Door.
Since John McNeill's work has been unobtainable for many years, the present publication includes both volumes under one title. A limited edition of 200 copies seemed appropriate, but reference copies will be available into the future through the established copyright libraries.
This is obviously a title of interest mainly to inhabitants of Colonsay and to persons with a local connection; it is also of interest in association with a study of Baptist history relating to Tiree, Mull, Islay and Lochgilphead.
The work may well be of interest to the many descendants of Colonsay Baptist emigrants to Prince Edward Island, to Bruce County in Ontario and to the United States of America. For such families, it will become an heirloom.
