The House of Lochar - ABOUT US

House of Lochar is a specialist Scottish publisher with a particular remit to print quality books on a number of subjects including Scottish history, traditions and other titles of general Scottish interest in both fiction and non-fiction. As we approach our twentieth birthday we have gained a reputation of which we are proud, and we are delighted to have published so many books which are of enduring merit.

Our books are on sale worldwide through book shops and specialist stores – big and small. Our wholesaling is conducted by Seol Ltd., in association with their own major imprint, Birlinn.

Please note that we are not seeking new titles at present as we are devoting our energies to maintaining our current list and working towards publication of a major new work "The Byrnes and The O'Byrnes", by Daniel Byrne Gleeson-Rothwell. 

As a matter of curiosity, House of Lochar is based upon the remote and very beautiful Hebridean island of Colonsay, some 37 miles from mainland Scotland and with a population of 118 persons.   All our retail orders are despatched through our tiny island sub-postoffice and thence carried onwards by CalMac Ferries to join the mainland postal system.  Your books have a colourful provenance - see more about it at Isle of Colonsay
